It’s 10 PM in Hattersheim and I’m now in bed after a restful day! I slept in till 730, went to breakfast till about 9 am did some bookkeeping after that and took a nap. Eddie and Carey went to check out the Cathedral at Mainz (Dom) but no parking available. Craig and Kyle did laundry while I handwashed “my delicates”.

This afternoon we had to go to the bike shop to swap bikes due to an incident…. but then we went to the Globus store. Kinda like a Walmart but with a few more things. Then back to the room for a nap before dinner.

Ah, Yes….. dinner!! Tonight we went to the Feldbergblick…. kind of a garden spot. It actually is a place that has a co-located Klein Garten Verein (little garden club). It’s one of those places where people have a small garden, a tiny, tiny house and enjoy live caring for their own spot of land. Kind of neat and you can find them anywhere. This just happens to be in the center of the city of Frankfurt!

A lovely place for dinner at the top of a hill…

Well, of course, the first thing that was ordered was drinks…. I asked for “Ein Grosses Hefeweizen” (a big Hefeweizen). Well, in all the other places we’ve been, a Grosses Bier is a Half Liter…. not at Feldbergblick!! It’s a full liter!

Some size comparisons….

I’ve had trouble eating a lot on this trip.(maybe it’s the beer)…. as I’ve gotten older, I can’t seem to shovel in as much as I used to. So tonight I had a bowl of Tomato Soup and another Wurst salad with fried potatoes . Es schmekt sehr gut!! (It tastes very good!)

But Craig and Kyle, along with Eddie and Carey shared “Ein Große Dreckschaufel”. What a meal!!!

A sampling of Meats, Wurst and vegetables served on a big wooden shovel (schaufel).

We met friends of Craig’s for dinner…. a very nice couple and their boys… Chris, Heather, Cameron and Gavin… and had a wonderful evening. The boys were wonderfully behaved and enjoyed showing off just a little, especially with Craig. But I was thrilled that Gavin took a liking to me!

This is his Soccer medal he got today! And I even got a hug from him!!! Kinda makes me miss my “Bonus Grandchildren “…. can’t wait to get home.

To close out the evening, I felt the need for a digestif so I had “apfelstrudel likör”. Wow… was that ever smooth!!!

And as we left, Chris got a picture of our group to commemorate the occasion….

We made it back to the hotel and adjourned to the room for a nightcap…. some of Hermann Korn’s finest “hausgemacht Wein” (homemade wine)….delicious as always!

Now… it’s bedtime! Tomorrow is a long day…. 70+ miles from Hattersheim to Koblenz And we’ll see the Loreley….
