Finally!!! The Adventure is underway!!

But it hasn’t been completely painless…. while going to Germany is allowed, there are some conditions. Seems like everywhere I looked, I found some sort of difference in the regulations surrounding visiting Germany.

In an attempt to sort things out, I reached out to my buddy, the Judge. Judge Mark was an honorary consul for Germany for a number of years. Mark hooked me up with a contact at the German Consulate in Chicago who happened to be the Chief Legal Officer there. I felt better about my inability to decipher the regulations when he said in a note “it is indeed really complicated, I admit”.

So… long story short, here are the requirements…

Since we are vaccinated, it is really no big deal except filling out a digital registration for the German Ministry of Health online. It’s a little bit of a hassle but by and large it was pretty easy. The one thing that was required was printing a “hard copy” of the form. They never really said why but when they say print it, you print it.

I found out today at the airport. I gave them my passport and my vaccination card and she started to check me in. Then she said “I can’t check you in without the….” and I said “The German Registration form?” She said yes and took it and verified that I had indeed completed it. And I was done!!! Then on to TSA screening and waiting at the gate for the flight!!

Atlanta arrival was on time but with a 3 hour layover we needed to go to the Delta SkyClub to kill a little time, get a drink, eat a snack and prep for our 9 hour flight on to Frankfurt. So a light lunch, a Bloody Mary, a chance to catchup on paperwork and soon we’ll be off!!

So now, I’ll settle back in my seat…. finish the movie I watched on the first leg, catch a couple of more, take a nap and wake up to breakfast in Europe.
